Bethel, Alaska – The VFW Auxiliary to Robert V. Lindsey Post 10041 is proud to announce that one of our own Senior Vice President, Mistie Hammond, has stepped forward as a candidate for National Guard of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
A longtime member and previous Department President, Mistie has spent years quietly but powerfully living out the Auxiliary’s motto of “Unwavering Support for Uncommon Heroes” in Alaska. From endless volunteering through the years she has helped with food baskets during the holidays to military families in need across Alaska, monthly gift bags to VA domiciliary, fundraising for National Home and the turkey giveaways that put meals on tables in Bethel and surrounding villages. Mistie has consistently shown what real service looks like.
Her leadership extends far beyond our post. Mistie currently serves as the Youth Activities Chairman for the Department of Alaska and previously, the National Youth Ambassador. Now Mistie is ready to bring that same hands-on, heart-driven leadership to the national level. If elected National Guard, she plans to focus on three priorities that deeply matter to her.
- Strengthening support for veterans and families in all communities
- Expanding youth awareness about our organizations and build patriotism, bringing in the next generation
- Making sure every Auxiliary member — no matter how small the post — feels heard and supported at the national table
“Being born and raised in Alaska, has taught me that distance should never be a barrier to service,” Mistie says. “Our veterans and their families deserve the same strong voice and resources as those in bigger cities. I want to carry the spirit of Post 10041 to the national stage and make sure no Auxiliary member ever feels alone in their mission.”
The election will take place at the 113th National Convention in Reno, Nevada, this July. Members of Post 10041 and the Department of Alaska are already rallying behind Mistie, collecting support and sharing her story across the state.
